Tested : Private, Fast and Free
I have used several Mobile apps that either promise total anonymity or faster speeds. Unfortunately, I never found an app that does both, simultaneously.
Come Warp - 1.1.1.1 ! This app created by Cloudflare not only keeps your internet communication private, it also speeds up the communication. Why, of course - the CDN provider which hosts the fastest DNS server (1.1.1.1 - which it says is twice faster than Google's famous DNS server 8.8.8.8) would be expected to come up with something like this.
You should find app here - Warp - 1.1.1.1
This is how the app will look like.

The first thing I did post installation of the app was, check the Internet speed and the nearest Cloudflare CDN server which the app connected me with.
Notice below the nearest server connected was located in Mumbai and the download speed being near 2.79 Mbps (Ideally I was expecting about 10 Mbps but have been getting reduced speed since the COVID-19 quarantine)

Now, let's again check the speed and the nearest server connected after enabling Warp. It seems to have increased. Of course, not drastically but a 1Mbps bump is quite good.

Most importantly, Warp ensures that the anonymity and higher speed is for all the apps and not just internet browsing. (which is the case for apps like Tor Browser).
However, if there is some app whose performance, you suspect is getting degraded due to Warp, you may chose to disable that app's traffic to move via Warp i.e. Cloudflare's CDN.
You can go to Settings below, and under Connection Options, select "Manage excluded apps" and then add the apps which you do not wish to send via Warp.

Disclaimer : I came across this app while finding ways to test my internet speed as guaranteed by my Internet Provider and ways to boost it. I do not have any affiliation with Cloudflare and thereby my observations are unbiased. The app worked for me and I hope it does for you too.

ReplyDeleteCloudflare WARP is presented in the article as a mobile networking application designed to improve privacy while also attempting to improve connection performance. The article highlights Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS service and describes WARP as providing protection across the device rather than limiting its operation to a particular web browser. The author also compares internet speed and server connectivity before and after enabling WARP.
ReplyDeleteThe article's discussion of encrypted communication, DNS, Cloudflare's network, and traffic protection makes it relevant to Network Security Projects for Final Year. It also describes how WARP can route traffic from multiple applications and provides an option to exclude particular applications when their performance is affected. This demonstrates how network-level traffic handling can be considered when studying mobile network security and privacy.
The article also has a broader information-security connection because its primary concern is protecting users' internet communication while using a mobile device. The ability to control which applications use WARP, together with the discussion of privacy and network communication, makes Information Security Projects another applicable classification.
